Remember this quilt we mentioned a few weeks ago, that you could go vote on? Well Melanie Wilson from LaVerkin won First Place in the McCall's Quilting Quilt Design Star Challenge!

She won a Pfaff 4.0 Quilting and Embroidery Machine, complete with the Horn workstation that it fits in. She will be featured in the March 2012 issue of McCall's Quilting Magazine.

Many of our quilting friends know that Wendy's husband, Ryan, was diagnosed last year with a very rare auto-immune disease, which has wreaked havoc on his kidneys. Through this year he has undergone extensive chemotherapy, and he will soon be in a place to receive a kidney transplant.

His siblings were all willing to test as donors, and his brother is currently planning on donating. This means he will not have to wait on the transplant list. Family and friends of Ryan have got together to perform a fundraiser in his behalf. We are selling Dixie Direct cards, and if you are interested in purchasing one to support him, they cost $35. You can come get them in the shop.

New Block of Month + Halloween Sale

We are starting a new Block of the Month. It will be on the second Saturday of every month, beginning November 12. These blocks come from a book called The Circut Rider Quilt, which is $24.95.

The book is based on an antique quilt, and has lots of different setting ideas. Each month's block will be $3.

Of the six blocks below, five are needle-turned applique, and one is machine appliqued. The author of the book did her quilt with the freezer paper method and machine. You can do this with whatever method of applique makes you comfortable.

On the first class at 10:00 a.m., Sariah will offer a FREE class on needle turn applique as well as demonstrating the freezer paper method.

Emily Bailey, from Aunt Em's quilt patterns, will be here in the shop to help us with our sew in. The Utah Quilt Guild's charity this year is Happy Chemo, and the purpose is to make small to lap sized quilts that will be given to chemotherapy patients after being displayed at the Quilt Fest in September.

Bring your own scraps, or just use ours. Bring your sewing machine and basic sewing supplies and spend the day with us and Emily as we all work together making blocks of the same pattern. We hope to make enough blocks for several quilts. The cost to participate will be $5.00 per session, which will go toward the backings and machine quilting of the quilts. Emily will provide the batting, which has been donated to the cause. At the end of the day, we will you one of our Wooden Nickels which is worth $5 here at the Quilt Cottage. What a deal! We will have treats to eat, door prizes and some special sales in the shop for when you need to take a break from sewing! Please join us for what should be a very fun day.

As many of you know, Wendy's husband, Ryan, is undergoing chemo and dialysis at this time, so we are very aware of what a wonderful cause this is, and are excited to host this event.

Vintage Baby Quilt

Isn't this little quilt simply adorable!?! You won't believe how easy it really is. This class is being offered on February 9th from 6-9 PM. Class Fee: $10 + $8 pattern.

Laps From Fats Club

We're using the "Laps from Fats" book & each month we'll make a different quilt. Pick & Choose which months you want to come. Kits will be available, but are not required. We'll meet on the 2nd Saturday from 1-4 PM. Book is required at $22.95.

The first quilt is called "By Chance" & features the "Vintage Homestead" line. We'll meet February 13th.

The second quilt is called "Sweet William Round" and features the "Lady Bug Love" line. We'll meet March 13th.

Remember when we received this fabric in!?! Well, here's what we did with her! This quilt uses the book "Turning 20 Around the Block", 1 panel & 13 Fat Quarters! That's all! Very quick & easy! We FINALLY have our new class schedule done! You can pick up a copy at the shop, or e-mail us and we'll e-mail you a copy! We're going "Back to the Basics"! Hand Quilting, hand applique, machine quilting, quilter's math, etc. with a few quilts thrown in there as well!

New Block of the Month - Around the World in 30 Blocks
Starts February 13th - 10 AM

2 different colorways - 30's Repros (similar to those in the photo on left) or Civil War feel (right - please note that it's not finished YET!)

We'll be doing 12 of these blocks or you can do all 30! The sign up fee is $20 which includes your finishing kit. Then each month you'll get 1 block for $2 each. If you choose to do all 30 blocks, the sign up fee is $40 and then you'll get 2 or 3 blocks for $2 each every month.

If you can't come to the shop, you can still participate. We'll mail you the kits each month. You'll pay $2/block + $0.75 postage.

Monthly Skinnies
Starts January 16th

These ever-so-cute 14" x 28" mini quilts are fun and easy to make. The monthly kit fee of $10.00 covers the class fee & the fabrics, including binding. You'll be able to finish each quilt during the class time. Every quarter you'll need the $9 pattern that has 3 months in it.
